When the pirate danger disappeared, the Calpines opened breaches in some side streets closed by the 17th century walls. XVIII. From here you can access the suburb, with San Roque, Puchalt and Pescadores streets being the most picturesque.
Next to the “Forat de la Mar” fishing skippers used to gather every morning to go to sea, since from that point they could see the state of the sea and based on that they decided whether they could fish or not.
The current “dels Mariners” square owes its name to the “Portal de la Mar”. Located at one end of the square, it was the place through which residents accessed the sea from their houses.
